“The investigation for this solo began during my Masters in contemporary dance performance in Limerick over 2018/19. This was a time I was exploring contemporary dance practice and performance as a departure from my traditional dance background. This solo ‘Re-set’ in many ways continues the search. I can describe making this piece as fixing a puzzle, dismantling it, and making a new picture while learning more and more about the puzzles and its pieces in the process.” (Sarah Fennell)
This was a professional development opportunity for choreographers interested in working collaboratively with lighting design.
The aim was to offer a supportive and resourced environment to learn about and experiment with lighting design for dance productions. The project paired choreographers with MFA students in lighting design from The Lir Academy offering a series of structured supports.
The project catered to choreographers who wished to learn more about the lighting design process, as well as provided experimental time for experienced choreographers who wish to realise a specific idea in advance of a creative process.
Contemporary dance choreographer Liz Roche mentored the choreographers as part of the professional development process. Lighting designer Sinead Wallace from The Lir Academy faculty oversaw the design students.
